40 families living in landslide prone areas in Masaba Sub County, Sironko District have rejected a government plan to resettle them in Bunambutye Sub County in Bulambuli District.
A team from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) last week visited Masaba Sub County to ascertain the families at risk for possible relocation to Bunambutye. Fred Mafabi one of the residents identified for possible resettlement says land in Masaba Sub County is good for farming, a source of living for many of them.
Moses Magomu who has two wives and twenty children claims the accommodation in Bunambutye is not enough for his family, a reason he prefers to remain in Masaba Sub County.
Peter Nangoli the LCI chairperson for Bululaba village says government should instead provide hard cash to families at risk to enable them get alternative land to put up their houses.
Isaac Lulaba the Sironko Resident District Commissioner says government plans to resettle all people living in disaster prone areas in Bunambutye Sub County, Bulambuli District. After resettlement, the land will then be taken over by government where trees will be planted.
