Education authorities are decrying the high school drop out among the girl children in Manafwa District.
Annette Mutonyi a Senior Education Officer at Manafwa district speaking at a community dialogue at Buwagogo Sub County offices said that more than 50 girls did not register for Primary Leaving Examinations last year as a result of being pregnant. In 2017 30 girls failed to sit for the Primary Leaving Examinations.
Mutonyi attributes the problem to irresponsible parenthood where some suspects negotiate with parents to settle defilement case outside Police. She also blames some parents of ignoring their cardinal role of providing scholastic materials and lunch for their children at school.
Denis Kamugisha the Manafwa District Police Commander urged parents to report defilement cases to police such that the perpetrators can be held liable. Kamugisha has also threatened to arrest any parent or suspect engaging in negotiation of defilement cases in Manafwa District.
