Village Health Team (VHT) members in Manafwa District have threatened to lay down their tools over delayed payment of allowances they were promised.
David Wambi one of the VHTs in Buwagogo Sub County says the promise to pay them was made last year but they have waited in vain. Wambi says they were also promised items like gumboots, raincoats, and umbrellas.
Ronald Bwayo another VHT says they have issued a one month ultimatum to the education authorities in Manafwa District and if no action is taken, they will have no alternative but to lay down their tools.
But Doctor Gideon Wamasebu the Manafwa District Health Officer says the work by VHTs is voluntary no one is paid a salary. He, however, says that the VHTs will be given allowances during the execution of some activities.
